Bearing installation

The installation of bearings of a shaft should be conducted according to the standards and techniques specified in the special standards. Any deviations from the instructions on the bearing installation lead to premature failure of a bearing and a whole production equipment and as a result to financial losses.

Before the bearing installation it is necessary to compare the marking on the bearing with that one on the package. Then unpacking and depreservation follow that should be performed according to the requirements to storage and depreservation. Then one should check the bearing for any damages, corrosion, contamination, seals integrity, washer clearances, mounting surfaces: straightness, alignment of shafts and housings, oil duct cleanness, burrs, scratches, cracks, etc.

The bearing heated to the defined temperature is mounted on a shaft. The installation should be conducted without forces acting on the cage and without direct impacts on the rings. The installation of the bearing on a mounting seat is conducted using special tools. It is necessary to ensure uniformity of movement of the mounting surface of the mounted ring. After the bearing installation is completed an operator should check clearances using the feeler gauges as well as position of bearings in supports of one shaft and matching of grooves for lubricant. At the final step of the bearing installation lubrication specified in the technical specifications is supplied and a test no- load run on low rpm is conducted. During the test run the bearing is being listened to using a tube or stethoscope; the noise should be low, continuous and uniform. The temperature of the operating bearing should not exceed the ambient temperature by more than 30 degrees.

The bearing can be installed properly by using special mounting tools, induction heaters and instruments and with observance of regulations and conditions specified in the technical standard documentation. The proper bearing installation is very important because it provides failure –free operation of parts and machines at your enterprise.
